EMG-controlled claw
A course project connecting muscle sensing, embedded control, and a servo-actuated mechanism.
Turn muscle activation into movement.
For Brown’s ENGN 0030 wearable-sensor project, I integrated an EMG sensor, an Arduino, and a servo-actuated claw. The project connected a biological input signal to an observable mechanical response.
A measured threshold for a physical action.
I analyzed resting and muscle-activation readings in MATLAB to implement threshold-based control. The Arduino uses the sensor reading to determine the commanded servo state, translating activation into claw motion.
The course supplied the general sensor-and-servo framework. My documented work includes integration, analysis for the control threshold, and the enclosure described below.
Build for access and iteration.
I designed and 3D printed a SolidWorks enclosure with a removable platform for the Arduino and breadboard. The removable assembly simplified access during prototyping and troubleshooting.
An integrated sensing-to-actuation project.
The completed project brought together EMG sensing, threshold-based embedded control, servo actuation, MATLAB analysis, and mechanical packaging. The available records support the implementation, but do not establish quantified response time, classification accuracy, or long-term reliability.
